A Methodology of Full Immersion
While learning a new language requires a strong will from the student, we at Celas Maya understand that able and experienced teachers using an effective methodology must be at the heart of
any successful program. We have crafted our language study
program to ensure that the learning process is as smooth and efficient as possible. We have found that the best method to learn
a language is via full immersion.

Our full immersion methodology includes a solid grammatical foundation via theory, analysis, and practical exercises. In addition, the student has the opportunity to live
with a local family to further their use of Spanish or K'ichee. The school organizes
frequent activities and programs in and outside the school and the city of Xela offers constant exposure to native Spanish speakers.

Individualized Classes
Our approach to teaching is to provide each student with his or
her own trained instructor. This approach allows us to personalize the curriculum to each student's level, needs and interests. The result is a program with maximum flexibility, individual attention
and the perfect pace of learning.

Activities Outside the Classrom
Each week, Celas Maya organizes daily activities for students to apply their Spanish in practical applications. Activities include field trips, films, lectures, and more. For more information, see the Activities section of our web site.

A Friendly Environment
We value the concept of building a friendly environment for study. Classes are conducted in a landscaped and peaceful garden located in a historic, colorful hacienda in the heart of the city. Students and staff enjoy free and unlimited hot coffee, hot tea, and purified water. During the morning break, we also offer fresh bread and cookies from a local bakery.

We do not require that our teachers use certain texts to teach each student, which gives them more flexibility and room for creativity when planning lessons for the different students they have each week. Instead, we keep a reference library that has texts available for students and teachers to check out, which can be used at the school and at home. Some of our most oft-used texts are Español en Español, Spanish the Easy Way, Intercambios: Spanish for Global Communication, Spanish First, Second, Third and Fourth Years by AMSCO and Spanish Full Immersion by Proyecto Francisco Marroquin.

To complement the study materials, our school library also contains audio-visual materials covering a variety of topics including politics, literature, history, and Mayan Culture. Films and documentaries are often shown in our video-projection room, and students can schedule in-school movie viewings 24 hours in advance.
